South by Southwest (abbreviated as SXSW and colloquially referred to as 'South By') is an annual conglomerate of film, interactive media, music festivals, and conferences that take place in mid-March in Austin. It began in 1987 and has continued to grow in both scope and size every year. SXSW is the highest revenue-producing event for the Austin economy, with an estimated economic impact of $350.6 million in 2018 (in comparison, Super Bowl LI brought a $347 million economic impact to the Houston economy).
The Austin City Limits (ACL) Music Festival is an annual music festival held in Zilker Park in Austin on two (2) consecutive three-day weekends in early October. Founded in 2002, the festival began as a one-weekend event and remained as such through the 2012 date.
